3D Models of Cities from Satellite
Images are Useful for Estimating the Properties of Buildings
|

|
For estimating losses due to earthquakes, one needs to know
the characteristics of the building stock in a city. The
job to compile such information for the numerous cities in
worldwide areas of earthquake and tsunami risk is enormous;
too large for engineering teams on foot. Therefore,
WAPMERR is developing methods to derive information on the
nature and height of buildings from satellite images in a
cost-effective way.
The following images show examples of 3D models of parts of
cities.
