About WAPMERR
WAPMERR was created in 2001 in Geneva, Switzerland, as a non-profit organisation for the purposes of reducing risk due to disasters and for rescue planning after disasters.
Real-Time Loss Estimates
The list of loss estimates that WAPMERR has issued in real –time since spring of 2003 for M _ 6 earthquakes in populated areas worldwide shows that we have successfully distinguished between disastrous and inconsequential earthquakes.
WAPMERR Participations
Developing methods for assessing risk due to natural hazards, creating 3D Geographical Information Systems for real-time monitoring, as well as mapping and analyzing earthquake and tsunami hazard are the main activities of WAPMERR..
Quakeloss 2
With this computer program and data set we calculate the approximate number of fatalities and injured, as well as damage to buildings, after earthquakes worldwide within less thanone hour. We also estimate loss scenarios for earthquakes that are likely to
occur in the
future.
Tsunami Research
WAPMERR conducts research on tsunami travel times and historic tsunami heights, together with the Tsunami Laboratory of Novosibirsk, in order to estimate run-up heights for future tsunamis.
